Chase Jarvis & My Goals As An Artist

Believe it or not, this is an inspirational post I meant to post on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I got busy with work, amongst other things. And because I've been so busy, I just want to relax in my free time, and this is one of those things I've put on the back burner as a result.

Anyway, enough excuses! Chase Jarvis is my favorite photographer. So much of my inspiration as an artist comes from not only his work but his overall attitude and mentality in the profession. More times than not, photographers tend to hold their "secrets" close, but Chase reveals everything and then some. When video is scoffed at for being clunky, deemed unnecessary in a still-photographer's world, Chase embraces it time and time again. His refusal to conform to the norm yields some of the most stunning photographs I've seen, and his video work is just as outstanding. And he has a blast doing it! Chase definitely loves what he does. Take a look at this behind-the-scenes video (one of many he's produced):

I always feel compelled to create photographs that will be the most incredible images ever seen after watching Chase, or any true artist, at work. I want people to see my photographs and be inspired by them, or feel the emotion as if the moment I had captured years ago happened yesterday. With each photo I take, I want it to not just be better than the last, but to make my last forgettable. My last may not be a bad photograph, but I'm constantly trying to find ways to make a better one. Do I always succeed? Absolutely not! Some of the days from my 365 Project are evidence of that. I have a long ways to go, but I set my goals high and I'll see what happens. =)

Being recognized as a master in photography, or in arts, isn't my goal, although I would be lying if I said it wouldn't be nice. ;) What's truly important to me is to capture a moment that means the world to someone, or at least create a work of art that will stir the hearts of the viewers. How I'm inspired by Chase Jarvis and other of the world's best artists is what I want to spread to everyone I know and meet. And, in turn, hopefully they too will be compelled to share their own lives and passions with everyone around them.

Again, this is yet another way I want to share my story with you all, and hopefully you'll all do the same. =)
